Signal Processing Research Scientist

What will you be you be doing as a Signal Processing Research Scientist?

You will be leading the R&D for a key aspect of the product to analyse sensor data using signal processing and machine learning methods. Given the nature of the data and problem, you will be at the forefront of the innovation and IP being developed by the company and the output of your work will result in publications, patents or proprietary algorithms. Hence you will be expected to perform independent research into prior art, understand the challenges in existing technology and developing innovative solutions to company’s technical problems. You will also be involved in discussions on future developments of the product, both on hardware and software side. On a day to day basis, you will be working with the technical and clinical teams, with regular meetings with the management team to outline company’s research strategy. The work would involve engaging with external teams as well, including product developers, IP firms and research collaborators.


In the role, you will be guided by advisors who are leaders in their field. While your responsibilities will be on the technical and product side, you will have the opportunity to see the commercial and business aspects of growing an early stage startup through direct discussions with the CEO and management team.


What is the background or experience we are looking for?

Academic qualification:

  • MSc or PhD (preferred) in Electronics, Electrical or Biomedical Engineering, Computer Science, Physics or related fields


  • 3+ years R&D experience (including academic work) working with digital signal processing, preferably in healthcare and wireless motion sensors (using Python, Matlab)

  • Projects involving machine learning and time series analysis (preferably self managed and initiated)

  • Preference for those with experience of working with electrical engineering or hardware side of signal processing

  • Strong preference for those with experience working with startups/SME (preferably medtech), managing independent projects, writing production code and growing a team

  • Strong preference for those with experience in product development

You will be compensated by a combination of salary and equity in the company.

What will the work environment be like?

You will be based in Central Oxford working in an open plan office with the rest of the team. There’s no dress code or annoying bureaucracy. It is likely you will be around other startups working on developing solutions to some of the most pressing problems in the world.
